paul hebbes I find myself coming back to this album when today's indie gets too inward looking and hipster-beardy (which is quite often). This is a tonic for bland shite. Get it in ya ears. Favorite track: Buckingham Gum.

about

As the title suggests, "Passing Strange" finds The Wednesday Club taming their esoteric tendencies somewhat, whilst staying true to the ethos that clever and stupid are equally valid methods of expression. Opening with the self-deprecatory call to arms of “We Suck” and running the gamut from Monarchy-bashin’ to Astronomy-lovin’, Passing Strange is laced with wit and insight that invites the listener to the party rather than leaving them out in the dark.

The Wednesday Club are a band formerly from Leeds, UK but now scattered around England. Comprising 3 distinct singer/songwriters each bringing their own spin on indie-pop but coming together through a shared love of the absurd. This is their second release on their own Cath ‘n’ Dad Records* after 2011’s double album So Claw/Sour Crow. In 2009 they released Katapult on Oddbox Records to very positive reviews, with Sounds XP calling it “a treasure trove of great sounds” and Leeds Music Scene praising it as "a triumph". The track ‘European Veins’ from Katapult was played on Gideon Coe’s 6Music show in 2010. They have also previously released the albums No, You Broke Jo’s Amp (2007) and SOAP (2008) on Doot Doot Records.
